About QBOW CFS Inc.:

QBOW is a growing Indigenous community-based organization, serving four Indigenous communities of children, youth, families & Elders. Our Vision is to build communities of strong, healthy, successful Indigenous people and families connected to each other and to their roots by fostering their health & well-being through culturally relevant services, support, and advocacy.

Position Summary:

The Prevention Worker will have to work as a member of the multidisciplinary prevention team. Their role will be to aid in the implementation of the integrated strategy across primary, secondary and tertiary settings within the QBOW Child and Family Services Inc. service area. The Prevention Worker will be expected to support the Prevention department within the community served ensuring the successful delivery of prevention programming. The Prevention Worker actively contributes to the further development of the QBOW CFS Inc. prevention services. They will take part in local prevention events as well as overseeing event operations. The Prevention Worker will provide a representative link to the prevention services between primary, secondary care and tertiary services. Further, they will work with other program staff to promote the service as well as support proper referral pathways for the client group.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor of Indigenous Social/Social Work, Human Justice or related discipline.
  • 5 Years experience working with Indigenous Families in crisis with demonstrated facilitation experience.
  • Successful completion of a type of Community Health Substance Abuse and Planning and Prevention ethics training.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Outlook e-mail required.
  • Knowledge of the health and social services programs/supports offered to First Nations in Saskatchewan, both in the Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 areas.
  • Experience of program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth/young adults’ engagement, and community outreach.
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Good organization, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Elevated level of sound and independent judgement, reasoning and discretion.
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to confidentiality.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Successful candidate will be required to submit a current criminal record check and vulnerable persons check.
  • Ability to work flexible hours: will include evenings and/or weekends to support program and community needs.
  • Maintain Confidentiality – Sign Oath of Confidentiality.

Program Delivery

  • Ensures Prevention services are delivered with excellence and conform to the QBOW CFS Inc.’s philosophy, policies, procedures and protocols as well to provincial legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Aids in ensuring the highest quality of Prevention services through decision-making that is done in the best interests and well-being of every child and family.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate workshops, programming and activities, teachings, ceremonies and healing practices for clients.
  • Aids in obtaining the necessary supplies, equipment or funds to facilitate prevention programming.
  • Completes relevant agency records, forms and documents as needed.
  • Prepares statistical reports for Prevention Supervisor, summarizing current activities and future planning and/or programs.

Program Support

  • Engages in effective communication with Prevention Workers, Protection Team, management and other staff to ensure adequate coordination of services and attainment of QBOW’s objectives.
  • Ensures that clients are aware of the resources and services available to them.
  • Aids in the planning and preparation of Annual/seasonal events and Rides.
  • Lead or take part in workshops, ceremonies, community activities as needed.

Community Relations

  • Promotes QBOWCFS vision, mission, goals and objectives.
  • Establishes and keeps a collaborative relationship between QBOWCFS and member First Nation community served to ensure best service delivery to the children and their families.
  • Conducts presentations to communities and organizations on prevention support and services.
  • Acts in a professionally proper manner both when working and not working ensuring a positive role model for clients while representing QBOWCFS.
  • Other duties as deemed by the Prevention Supervisor.
