Position Summary:

This position is bound by the Social Work Code of Ethics. Reporting to the Manager of Family Services, the Protection Supervisor provides direct supervision to all family service workers and volunteers in the program. Ensures that policies, regulations and mandates related to child welfare are adhered to. Ensures that client files and other related files are accurate and current. As Protection Supervisor they will function as QBOW’s liaison between in-community and outside-community agencies, schools, programs, and services. They will assess the training needs of family service workers and arrange training as needed. Make recommendations to the Manager of Family Services where improvements are needed relating to the delivery of services, maintenance of the department and the management of the staff.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor of Indigenous Social/Social Work or related discipline
  • Five (5) years’ experience supervisor/management in child welfare
  • 5 Years experience working with Indigenous Families in crisis with demonstrated facilitation experience.
  • Familiarity with services and support in Saskatchewan, both in the Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 areas.
  • Knowledge of First Nation policies and legislations, Saskatchewan Child and Family Services Act, the FSIN Child Welfare and Family Support Act, Policy and Procedures Manual for Family Centered Services (MSS), and other legislation.
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth/young adults’ engagement, and community outreach.
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Good organization, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Elevated level of sound and independent judgement, reasoning and discretion.
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to confidentiality.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Successful candidate will be required to submit a current criminal record check and vulnerable persons check.
  • Ability to work flexible hours: will include evenings and/or weekends to support program and community needs.

Duties:

  • Participate in planning for transitioning youth/young adults including identifying and maintaining connection to family, extended family and community.
  • Contact former and existing youth and young adults in care who meet the post majority criteria to enroll in voluntary services/post majority program.
  • Ensure appropriate cultural opening when coordinating meetings within QBOW CFS Inc., for client’s, families, communities, and other collaterals.
  • Actively seek guidance from the cultural staff how to incorporate culture into the position or how to work from a cultural perspective.
  • Provide wrap-around support that meets the distinct needs and promotes holistic positive outcomes for thriving community youth and young adults.
  • Support youth and young adults to be fully independent and identify their own interests to support their well-being for their life-long success.
  • Assist youth and young adults to participate in cultural programming.
  • Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all documents and records.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and concise work files.
  • Perform additional related duties in accordance with job responsibilities and department objectives.
  • Participate in training, cultural events and other mandatory training as required.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Executive Director/Associate Executive Director.
