Position Summary: The Child Care Worker reports to Emergency Home Manager. Our Emergency Home provides a temporary shelter for children and youth until it is safe for them to return to their family homes or a place of care. As a Child Care Worker, you will play a crucial role in creating a supportive, culturally enriched environment where children and youth can thrive. The Child Care Worker is responsible for following approved policies for the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Home. The Child Care worker will provide supervision, counselling, and personal care to the needs of the clients in the Emergency home. The Child Care workers will assess and respond effectively to the short-term emergency plan and intervention needs of youth and their families.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
•Certificate in Early Childhood Development or related discipline.
•Minimum (2) years working as a team member in program and service delivery for youth and children
•At least one (1-2) years of experience working with children, youth, and/or adults in crisis
•Front line youth/childcare experience preferred
•Preference will be given to applicants with
oExperience working with Indigenous populations
oExperience working with community resources
oExperience supporting youth with intergenerational trauma/PTSD, experiencing current/previous exploitation & mental health concerns.
• A type of Trauma-Informed Care Certification is an asset
• Knowledge & understanding of challenges and barriers faced by Indigenous peoples
• Collaborative team player ready to work in a supportive environment.
• Strong communication skills & precise documentation
• Strong interpersonal skills to build genuine connections with colleagues and clients.
• Leadership qualities that motivate and guide positive behaviors.

Conditions of Employment
•Maintain Clear CPIC with Vulnerable Sector Check
•Must maintain a class 5 driver’s license and have a reliable vehicle
•Maintain Confidentiality – Sign Oath of Confidentiality annually
•Preference will be given to applicants with CPR/First Aid (B), Conflict Resolution, Crisis Intervention (DPVS), ASIST (Suicide Intervention), Mental Health First Aid & Water Safety
•Work in a shift work environment as we operate 365/24/7.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide compassionate support to individuals with complex needs, fostering a safe and nurturing environment.
• Monitor and supervise youth daily by following the daily routines (i.e. all areas of their living quarters are clean, personal laundry done, personal hygiene is practiced daily etc.)
• Implement & facilitate engaging activity plans that encourage participation
•Establish and implement clearly defined behavioral expectations, rules, and limits that are harmonized with the abilities of the youth
•Ensure that proper discipline, guidance, and direction is provided in a fair, consistent and logical manner, in an atmosphere of respect and concern for the special circumstances, rights and dignity of the youth
• Resolve conflicts with empathy and use behavior management strategies to guide clients through challenges
• Complete documentation and incident reports accurately and clearly
• Track and reconcile expenses, submitting receipts for approved expenditures.
• Ensure agency vehicle logs are completed accurately.
• Maintain and care for assigned assets and resources, including buildings, vehicles, furnishings, and equipment.
• Perform other related duties as needed to support clients and the team.
• Attend regular staff meetings contributing ideas, strategies, and experiences
• Maintain a working knowledge of current QBOW policies, procedures, guidelines, and emergency protocols

Safety:
• Prioritize and promote safe work practices, creating a secure environment for clients and colleagues.
•Dispense medication at proper times and according to the doctor’s order. Record this in medical logbook.
•Ensure all medication is always under lock and key
•Shift note every 15 minutes to ensure safety and accuracy of onsite operations
•Follow the child prevention intervention techniques when restraining Wage range: Full/Part-time $18.00 to $30.00 per hour depending on experience. (Tax Exempt for Treaty Status)
